ARKANA means a prayer of protection. I was given that prayer in Peru, and I knew my purpose was to carry it to the world.
At first I thought it meant insurance, because that's what I was doing: protecting people. Then I learned it was about something bigger: advocating for people, and protecting the people who are most vulnerable.
My father had a stroke while he was on dialysis, with a nurse in the room. I believe that if someone had been watching him closely, it might have ended differently.
A woman in my family went into a rehab center after surgery. A blood clot formed and nobody checked on her. She was left paralyzed, and she has since passed away.
And I've been in a hospital bed alone. I cried. It's one of the loneliest places in the world.
None of that has to happen.
